REVIEW OF 153 THE BIERE STREET , WHITEFIELD, BANGALORE

Last week me along with few more bloggers were invited to ” 153 Biere Street,Bangalore ” to experience the unique food and ambiance.Though i very much wanted to go, i was in two thoughts as it would be too late while returning and my home is very far from that place. But once i got a confirmation regarding the pick n drop from my home, there was nothing more to think and finalized my plans without anymore worries.Since the invites were sent late ,i didn’t have much time to Google about the place too,so went there without any pre assumptions and imaginations as what was in store. But once i reached the place ,i was totally overwhelmed at the sheer grandeur of the space.

ABOUT 153  BIERE STREET , BANGALORE

The Biere Club – is South India’s first craft brewery.Started by siblings,Aravind and Meenakshi raju few years back, the Biere club offers an international experience;from decor to brewing. And now their love for people and crafted beer, made them stretch their boundaries to open 153 Biere Street on an one acre area in Whitefield. The place was officiallylaunched on 20 Feb 2014 and has already started creating a buzz. 153 Biere street is not just a restaurant,it brings together shopping outlets, restaurants and a bar around an open space.

LOCATION

The place is right adjacent to Prestige ozone near the Forum value mall in Whitefield and is very convenient to locate and access.

MY EXPERIENCE AT 153 , BIERE STREET

I reached the place at about 7.30 PM and was completely mesmerized by the beauty of the place, the minute i entered the property.

I felt like i was in some quaint European town roadside cafe;the cobbled streets ,old fashioned wrought iron street lights and park benches, colorful building facades with window box flowers, the arched entrances and the overall decor were charming and totally reminiscent of a continental value. For once i felt , am i really in Bangalore ?

Throughout the stretch of the cobbled street you will find retails which offer you customized service as per your specifications.

>Tailorman : Custom luxury Menswear with a choice of finest fabrics from across the world

>Ohana Flowers: Provides gorgeous floral arrangements for wedding ,parties, corporates etc.

>Do Something : is an arts and crafts store that sells trinkets and has pottery and painting for kids and adults too..

>The Design Edition: upcoming interior and home decor store.

Then we have a huge open space – Patio , meant for some parties, events ,carnivals, screenings or if nothing, for kids to play.

It has a small in house garden too that will soon supply fresh herbs for most of the restaurants produce.

The outdoor seating is a very pleasant option.Saw that ,young people and couples had occupied that area and were enjoying the nice breeze in the crisp night.Kids were running and playing here and there and few people were engaged in conversation with a leisurely stroll.

I had already started falling in love with the place and it was time for me to taste their food.We entered Biere Club.Nice simple and stylish setting of the place – black and white cartoon etchings on the wall, the wooden furniture & the bar with their brews on tap.

I ordered Virgin Mojito which was filled with ice sprite lemon juice and mint.Taste wise it was not that great but was refreshing keeping in mind the hot humid summer.I actually was fully confused what to order from that huge menu card for only drinks..

I sipped few other cocktails like non alcoholic beer, pinacoladas and many more.. the servings were generous and the drinks were splendid..!!

There was a nonstop supply of snacks to pair up with the drinks. In the veg section the starters were

Beer battered onion rings with thousand island dip.. it was crispy and crunchy.. liked it..

Crispy jalapeno canape , for me it was too cheesy and bland..I am not a huge fan of cheese.

Garlicky potato wedges and finger chips served in cute small bucket ..loved it..presentation was so appealing. The dips were perfect with these starters .

Finally it was time for veg pizza , the thin crust authentic pizza was absolute yum..i went on having one piece after other and good thing it was not heavy. It was thin ,crisp and light. The sauce was perfect ,roasted bell peppers and onion added an amazing taste.

Under non veg section, starters served were spiced Moroccon grilled chicken ,shrimp and lobster popcorn, fish, chicken pizza etc.

My tummy was already full by relishing these yummies. and was startled when the organizer asked us ” if you are done, lets move to mustard and cress for main course..”. I was like ” What !!?? Main course ? What was pizza then? i cant eat anymore …” . But then the inner foodie in me forced to go on and enjoy few more delicacies.

We proceeded to ” Mustard & Cress ” an organic Californian /Continental restaurant and entered the large dining room reserved for us.The focus of this restaurant is mainly fresh, local organic stuff  they grow on location.Hmm.. everything organic, including water. The whole atmosphere inside the dining room was something special and unique,a dramatic ambiance.

Mustard plants and cress (salsa) was kept in a mortar in front of each chair. There was a basket filled with a variety of buns and breads.

Once settled , we were served with salad of fruits and sprouts with organic seeds and nuts. It was so fresh. I realized, the organic food has created that magic.

Next came watermelon carpaccio. I tasted it for the first time and have become a huge fan of it. Loved it the most  among all delicacies that was served throughout the evening.I in fact have started searching in net for the authentic recipe of this.Thin slices of watermelon were topped with roasted nuts ,honey and something which gave that unique taste..

Under non veg, there was a grilled chicken salad and a pesto fish.

Then came soup, For non veg it was coriander soup with crabs n  For veg tomato and coriander soup.It was just perfect with right thickness, spices, tang and sweetness. Was sipping it giving a worried glances at watch as time was running like anything.Yes it was already past 10 PM. I had to leave the restaurant asap to reach home before 12 PM.So didn’t wait for the main course.Wish they had called us for lunch ,so that i could have spent some more time relishing the unique tasty dishes.

Just before saying good bye to 153 Biere Street , i stopped at the bakery by the name ” Everything Stops For T ” .I madly fell in love with this place as soon i entered it. Its a Victorian style bake house with bright walls, black and white quotes and all over yummy desserts. I felt like a kid in candy land fully lost staring at those tempting colorful desserts.

As i didn’t have even a single mm empty space in my tummy , i packed the goodies to home to enjoy the cakes, tarts, choco n oats bar ,biscuits next day with my kids

CONCLUSION:

I noticed that almost 60 percent customers at 153 Biere Street were Foreigners. So menu is mostly continental and taste is proper authentic. It was good and unique. But feel they can tweak a bit to cater mass Indian palate .Indians might feel food a bit bland. So its better to mention before hand to make it spicy.

It might be a bit expensive too , but special occasions ,celebrations deser
ves it.

Overall i would say this is an awesome place to visit for the ambiance, the look and feel …A place with lot of promise and i just loved it.This place has it all ,suitable for people of all age groups to spend a relaxed rejuvenating weekend with family and friends.Do visit this place at least once and get lost in the old world sentiment- quaint and cobbled.
